Hi! Is anybody reading this who's connected with Grace Rayers (nee Darling), who was born 13/4/1902? She was my grandmother, and it would be nice to hear from another relative of hers!

Oldest record of a Darling is 1790 NB Canada-- Our first is a marriage of Montague William Darling (1848) to Margaret Sinclair daughter of William Sinclair(Orkney Islands of Scotland) of Hudson Bay Co. Chief Factor. After returning to England and then Montague retired in France, around 1898 Family moved to Canada then to Chicago Ill. Montague is my Great Grandfather and his son Ralph M.Darling is my grandfather he married Emily Ermatinger Crawford. ETC.ETC. ETC.
It was refreshing to see an original DARLING CREST. ;)

My father said any time he asked his grandpa john what they were he said american indian I guess. I assume that was Johns mother since no pictures of anyone from farther back look like it. If your family has a story similar I would love to hear from you, thanks

My great grandfathers name was John Darling from millington michigan. His father stood a woman up at the alter for another woman whom he had seven children with. His mother died giving birth to the last wich shortly there after caused the family to be broke up. My great-great grandfather went and found the woman he stood up and married her so he could regain his children unfortunatley my greatgrandfather John had runaway by then and didnt catch up with any siblings but a few roughly 20 years later. My grandfather used to talk about a few of his dads uncles maybe they were his dads brothers i dont recall exactly but two of there names were Willard and "* * *" Jasper. One of the brothers I guess was a constable in Millington, Michigan. They say he never carried a gun but loved to fight.

My ancestor John Darling, son of John, baker, married to Mary Pitcaithley in 1860,daughter of John Pitcaithey, in Edinburgh. Married 1860 to Elizabeth Ferguson, sailed for Adelaide in Barque Archilles in c. 1835, and founded important family business: in wheat, wool. His eldest son founded BHP (Broken Hill Pty - mining). We do have more info re these ancestors, but none of those who remained in Scotland. Our ancestors here were quite prolific - John Darling 1 had 7 sons and 1 daughter. All were "well looked after" re properties.I am descended from his third son, James, (my great grand father)all on land, as was my dad. I am a teacher, married to an artist, so I suppose I have broken the mould!! I would to hear from you. Jill Jopson (nee D)
