Eleven Generations of our Darling Family are listed below with the exception of any living persons. In some cases names of those listed may have been shortened, altered or removed completely from this list. A further Four generations are currently in our database but are available only to immediate family members.

 First Generation

 1. Willimi DURLING. Born c1599 he married Maria.

 They had the following children:

                                i.              Guiliulmus. Buried on 5 June 1628 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

                               ii.              Willms.

                              iii.              Robertus.

                              iv.              Edward. Born 1632. He died in St Johns Bromsgrove in 1691 at the age of 59 and was buried on 10 February 1691 in St Johns Bromsgrove. Occupation: Carpenter.r.

On 23 August 1657 when Edward was 25, he married Frances WHORLEY, in St Johns Bromsgrove.

              2               v.              Thomas. (1635-1690)

Second Generation

2. Thomas DURLING. Born during 1635, he died in 1690, at the age of 55 and was buried on 19 January 1690 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

He married Elizabeth who died in 1681.

They had the following children:

Third Generation

 3. Edward DURLING. He married Alice.

They had the following children:

                                i.              Elizabeth. Born on 1 March 1700 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

On 24 April 1715 when Elizabeth was 15, she married James RUTTER, in St Johns Bromsgrove.

                               ii.              Hannah. Buried on 25 September 1718 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

                              iii.              William. Buried on 20 September 1704 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

                              iv.              Pheby. Buried on 6 July 1707 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

                               v.              Mary.

                              vi.              Edward.

4. Thomas DURLING. Born in 1670. He died in 1718 at the age of 48 and was buried on 19 December 1718 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

On 20 August 1695 when Thomas was 25, he married Elizabeth GROVE, in St Johns Bromsgrove. Elizabeth died in 1715.

They had the following children:

              5                i.              Hannah.

              6               ii.              William. (1698-1729)

                              iii.              Elizabeth. On 9 February 1734 Elizabeth married Richard HILLIER, in St Johns Bromsgrove.

                              iv.              Jane. Buried on 1 February 1703 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

                             vii.              Susanna(h). On 8 April 1735 Susanna(h) married William SHARPTON, in St Johns Bromsgrove.

5. Hannah DURLING.

She had a daughter:

                                i.              Sarah. Buried on 15 4 1722 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

6. William DURLING. Born in 1698 and died in 1729 at the age of 31. He was buried on 9 May 1729 in Great Alne. He married Sarah who died in 1729.

They had the following children:

                              iv.              Sarah. Buried on 21 May 1729.

                               v.              Elizabeth. Buried on 8 April 1726.

7. Jane DURLING. Buried on 3 September 1731 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

She had a daughter:

                                i.              Anne. Buried on 15 March 1732 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

 Fifth Generation

8. Richard DURLING. Born in 1718 and died in 1779 at the age of 61. He was buried on 9 February 1779 in Worcester St Peter. Occupation: Mason.

On 21 January 1746 when he was 28, he married Bridget DUFFIELD, in St Johns Bromsgrove.

They had the following children:

                                i.              William. Born in 1747 in Bromsgrove he died aged 6 in 1753 and was buried on 30 July 1753 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

                               ii.              Richard. Born in 1750 in Bromsgrove.

                              iii.              Sarah. Born in 1752 in Bromsgrove.

              9              iv.              John. (1754-1827)

           10               v.              William. Born 1757

                              vi.              Mary. Born in 1759 in Bromsgrove. She died in Bromsgrove in 1761 at the age of 2 and was buried on 26 April 1761 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

                             vii.              Edward. Born in 1760 in Bromsgrove. He died aged 1 in Bromsgrove during April 1761 and was buried on 16 April 1761 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

viii.           Ann. Born in 1767 in Bromsgrove. She died that same year in Bromsgrove and was buried on 25 October 1767 in St Johns Bromsgrove.

Sixth Generation

9. John DURLING. Born in 1754 in Bromsgrove. He died in Frog Lane Worcester in 1827 at the age of 73. He was buried on 9 December 1827 in St Peters Worcester. His occupations were: Police Constable/Copper Plate Printer/Sedan Chairman.

On 22 January 1776 when he was 22, he first married Mary STRAIN, in All Saints Worcester. Mary died in 1811.

They had the following children:

                                i.              Mary. She died in 1811 and was buried on 28 April 1811 in St Peters Worcester. On 23 January 1809 she married John WEBB, in St Peters Worcester.

                               ii.              Bridget. On 19 April 1812 she married John WEBB, in St Peters Worcester.

                              iii.              John.

                              iv.              Richard. He died in 1788 and was buried on 17 January 1788 in St Peters Worcester.

                               v.              Sarah. She died in 1790 and was buried on 12 March 1790 in St Peters Worcester.

           11              vi.              Sarah.

After the death of his wife Mary STRAIN, John remarried a Mary JONES she was born in 1767 and died at the age of 84 in 1851.

They had no children together but Mary had a daughter previous to their marriage named Sarah.

10. William DURLING. Born in Bromsgrove on 8 May 1757 in. On 10 February 1781 when he was 23, he married Hannah DAVIE, in St Johns Bromsgrove she was born in 1764 and died in the Work House, Sub-District of Worcester North on 19 September 1849 at the age of 85. 

They had the following children:

           12                i.              Benjamin. (1781-1838)

                               ii.              Ann. Born in 1783 she died at the age of 4 in 1787 and was buried on 2 February 1787 in St Peters Worcester.

                              iii.              William. Born in 1786 he died in 1787 aged 1 and was buried on 8 January 1787 in St Peters Worcester.

                              iv.              Jane. Born in 1789 she died aged 16 in 1805 and was buried on 19 December 1805 in St Peters Worcester.

                               v.              Lucy. Born in 1796 she died in 1809 at the age of 13 and was buried on 3 September 1809 in St Peters Worcester.

Seventh Generation

11. Sarah DURLING. On 29 March 1812 she married William WHITTAL, in St Swithens Worcester.

They had the following children:

                               ii.              William. Buried on 3 12 1820 in St Peters Worcester.

12. Benjamin DARLING. Born in November 1781 in Bromsgrove he died in King Street Worcester on 30 June 1838 at the age of 56. He was buried on 3 July 1838 in St Peters Worcester. He was a Shoemaker.

On 5 January 1801 when Benjamin was 19, he married Elizabeth WILLIAMS, in St Peters Worcester, she was born in 1778 and died in Sidbury in 1834 at the age of 56.

They had the following children:

           13                i.              Benjamin. (1802-1881)

           14               ii.              Leonard. (1803-1825)

                              iii.              Elizabeth. Born in 1804 she married on 20 October 1823 when she was 19 to William DAGE, in Claines Church Worcester.

                              iv.              Maria. Born in 1806. Maria died aged 18 in 1824, she was buried on 28 March 1824 in St Peters Worcester.

                               v.              Charles. Born in 1808. Charles died aged 2 in 1810 and was buried on 31 January 1810 in St Peters Worcester.

                              vi.              Charles. Born in 1810.

                             vii.              Henry. Born in 1815. He died in 1822 aged 7 and was buried on 21 April 1822 in St Peters Worcester.

                            viii.              Frederick. Born in 1816 in Frog Lane Worcester he died in Wylds Lane Worcester St Peter on 3 May 1839 aged 23. He was buried in 1839 in St Peters Worcester. His occupation was a Shoemaker.

On 28 October 1836 when Frederick was 20, he married Sarah DARKE, daughter of William Williams DARKE & Ann DAVIS, in Claines Church Worcester. Sarah who was born in 1815 died in Spring Place Worcester St Peter on 19 December 1844, she was 29.

Eighth Generation

13. Benjamin DARLING. Born in 1802 in Worcester he died in the Almshouses Northfield Terrace, Claines, Worcester. He was buried on 12 January 1881 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 8756. His occupation was a Cordwainer (Shoemaker).

On 19 October 1823 when Benjamin was 21, he married Sarah JEFFERIES, in St Peters Worcester. Sarah was born in 1805 in Bath, Somerset, she also died in Northfield Terrace, Claines, Worcester.

They had the following children:

                                i.              Maria. Born during 1824 in High Timber Street Worcester. In 1846 when Maria was 22, she married Edwin SPRAG.

           15               ii.              Henry (1825-1909)

                              iii.              Leonard. Born in 1827. He died in 1827 and was buried on 21 March 1827 in St Peters Worcester.

                              iv.              Hannah Elizabeth. Born in 1828 in King Street Worcester.

On 25 December 1847 when Hannah Elizabeth was 19, she married John DARKE, son of Leonard DARKE & Mary COPE, in St Peters Worcester. It is understood that John died soon after.

When Hannah Elizabeth was 30, she married a second time to James LEE on 26 July 1858, in St Peters Worcester. James was born in 1829.

           16               v.              Charles (1830-1904)

           17              vi.              Benjamin (1833-1882)

                             vii.              Sarah Ann. Born in 1834 in King Street Worcester. Her occupation was a Gloveress.

On 25 December 1854 when Sarah Ann was 20, she married Edward Henry WILLIAMS, son of George WILLIAMS, in St Peters Worcester. Edward was born in 1832.

                            viii.              Thomas Jefferies. Born in 1837 in Diglis Street Worcester. He died in Willow Street Worcester on 12 November 1887 aged 50. He was buried on 18 November 1887 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 8824 (Unmarked). His occupation was a Glove cutter.

He married Mary Ann HAYES, daughter of William HAYES & Esther DAVIS. Mary was born in 1822 and died in 8 Willow Street Worcester on 28 July 1889, she was aged 67.

           18              ix.              Elizabeth Charlotte (1839-1890)

                               x.              Leonard Henry. Born in 1843 in Diglis Street Worcester. He died in Arboretum Claines on 22 December 1870 at the age of 27. He was buried on 26 December 1870 in Astwood Road Cemetery Worcester, Grave Space 8785. He was a China Painter.

           19              xi.              Alfred (1844-1879)

14. Leonard DARLING. Born in 1803 in Worcester. He died in 1825 at the age of 22 and was buried on 28 March 1825 in St Peters Worcester. His occupation was a Shoemaker.

On 12 November 1821 when Leonard was 18, he married Ann SPOONER, in Claines Church Worcester. She was born in 1809. 

They had the following children:

                                i.              Henry. Born in 1822. He was a Shoemaker like his father.

                               ii.              Leonard. Born in 1825. He was also a Shoemaker.

Ninth Generation

15. Henry DARLING. Born on 7 December 1825 in Church Street Worcester. Henry died in Medindie, South Australia on 17 May 1909 at the age of 83. He was buried in North Road Cemetery, East of the Chapel, Path 11 South, Plot 454, Adelaide, South Australia. His occupation was a Tailor.

On 25 December 1843 when he was 18, he married Rosina ORSMOND, daughter of Robert ORSMOND & Susan HAMPSON, in The Parish Church of St George, Hanover Square in the County of Middlesex. Rosina who was born in 1825 died in North Road Medindie South Australia on 12 August 1897 at the age of 72.

They had the following children:

           21                i.              Grace. (1844-1917)

                               ii.              Ida Amelia. Born on 19 July 1846 at 27 Great Putteney Street, St James, Westminster in the County Of Middlesex. She died in Nailsworth, South Australia on 15 January 1875 aged 28 and was buried on 21 January 1875 At North Road Cemetery Nailsworth South Australia (Burial Number 615, Plot 454). She was a talented Artist and a copy of one of her paintings can be seen on the home page of this site.

           22              iii.              George Walden Smith. (1849-1926)

           23              iv.              Benjamin Charles. (1850-1921)

           24               v.              Rosalie Charlotte. (1853-1921)

           25              vi.              Henry James. Born 1857

                             vii.              Charles Hampson. (Twin). Born on 21 March 1861 in Medindie South Australia. He died one month later on 24 April 1861 in Medindie South Australia.

                            viii.              Sarah Susannah (Twin). Born on 21 March 1861 in Medindie, South Australia. She died aged 92 on 17 April 1953.

On 7 May 1906 when Sarah Susannah was 45, she married Edwin RUDLAND, in the Presbyterian Manse, Jamestown, South Australia. Edwin was born in 1857 in Adelaide, South Australia and died on 1 September 1915, he was 58.

16. Charles DARLING. Born in 1830 in King Street Worcester. He died in Comer Road St Johns Worcester on 2 May 1904 at the age of 74. He was buried on 5 May 1904 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 8823 (Unmarked). He was a Shoemaker and was made a Freeman of the City of Worcester on 10th July 1860.

On 8 August 1852 when Charles was 22, he married Elizabeth HAYES, daughter of William HAYES & Esther DAVIS, in St Johns Worcester. She was born in 1830 in Worcester and died on 19 March 1896 at the age of 66.

They had the following children:

                                i.              Henry William. Born on 10 July 1854. He died in 1874 aged 19 and was buried in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 8794 (Unmarked).

                               ii.              Edward Charles. Born on 24 July 1862.

           26              iii.              Albert Charles. (1863-1943)

17. Benjamin DARLING. Born in 1833 in King Street Worcester. He died at 28 St Pauls Street Worcester on 6 July 1882 at the age of 49. He was buried on 9 July 1882 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 24427. His occupation was a Tailor.

On 4 November 1855 when Benjamin was 22, he married Eliza CROCKETT, daughter of John CROCKETT & Ann OSBOURN, in St Johns Worcester. Eliza was born in 1834 in Worcester and died at 23 Jubilee Terrace, Temperance Street, Worcester on 3 June 1897 at the age of 63.

They had the following children:

           27                i.              Emily Eliza. Born 1856

           28               ii.              Thomas Jefferies. Born 1858

                              iii.              John. Born in 1859. He died in Waterloo Street, Worcester in 1863, he was 4 years old. He was buried on 26 November 1863 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 2606a.

                              iv.              Sarah Ann. Born on 18 March 1863 in Bank Street Worcester. On 20 December 1883 when Sarah Ann was 20, she married William RICKETTS, son of George RICKETTS, in Whittington Parish Church, Worcester. William was born in 1863.

           29               v.              Eliza. (1865-1932)

                              vi.              Louisa. Born on 24 August 1867 in Bank Street Worcester. She was a Glovress according to the 1881 census.

                             vii.              James. Born in 1868. He died in Bowling Green Terrace Worcester in 1874 aged 6 and was buried on 4 January 1874 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space  8739 (Unmarked).

                            viii.              Benjamin. Born on 21 November 1869 in Bank Street Worcester. He died aged 1 at Clap Gate Worcester in 1871 and was buried on 5 June 1871 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 8479.

           30              ix.              Walter James. (1871-1949)

                               x.              James. Born in 1873. He died in Spring Gardens Worcester in 1875 aged 2 and was buried on 4 January 1875.

           31              xi.              Alfred. Born 1876

18. Elizabeth Charlotte DARLING. Born in 1839 in Diglis Street Worcester. She died in Worcester during 1890 aged 51. Her occupation was a Gloveress but the 1881 Census records her as a Shopkeeper of, 84 Sidbury Worcester.

On 26 July 1858 when she was 19, she married Thomas SAUNDERS, son of Thomas SAUNDERS, in St Peters Worcester. He was born in 1838 in St Peters Worcester.

They had the following children:

                                i.              Alfred Clarence. Born in 1859 in Worcester. Alfred Clarence died on 15 April 1943, he was 84 years old.

           32               ii.              Amelia. Born 1863

                              iii.              Lizzie. Born in 1870 in Worcester.

                              iv.              William Frederick. Born in 1873 in Worcester St Peter.

19. Alfred DARLING. Born in 1844 in Diglis Street Worcester. He died in Pitmaston Road, St Johns Worcester on 30 March 1879 aged 35. He was buried on 3 April 1879 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 8045 (Unmarked). He was a Glover.

Alfred married Julia Maria CLISSOLD, daughter of Unknown CLISSOLD & Amelia. Julia was born in 1848 and died in Worcester aged 60 during 1908.

They had the following children:

                                i.              Florence Rosetta. Born in 1874. She was buried in St Johns Cemetery Worcester, Grave Space 473.

                               ii.              Ada Mary. Born in 1878.

20. William Frederick DARLING. Born on 15 November 1846 in Diglis Street Worcester. He died in Powick, Bath Road, Worcester on 19 November 1904, aged 58. He was buried on 23 November 1904 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 8814. His occupation was a Cab Proprietor.

In 1872 when he was 25, William married Alice WALKER. Alice was born in 1849 and died on 18 December 1923 aged 74.

They had the following children:

                                i.              Leonard Henry. Born during 1874, Leonard Henry died on 25 May 1886 aged 12. He was buried on 2 June 1886 in Astwood Road Cemetery, Grave Space 8785.

                               ii.              Alice Grace. Born in 1878. She married Richard William DEACON.

                              iii.              Wilfred George. Born in 1882.

                              iv.              Nora Grace. Born in 1884. Nora married Alfred Vernon ROWE.

Tenth Generation

21. Grace DARLING. Born on 13 November 1844 in 1 Kemps Court St James, Westminster, in the County of Middlesex England. She died in Prospect, South Australia on 20 May 1917, she was 72. She was buried in North Road Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia.

On 11 August 1874 when Grace was 29, she married Richard TURNER, son of Henry James Browning TURNER & Elizabeth Ann EDWARDS, in the Residence of Ida Darling, Medindie, South Australia. Richard was born on 28 August 1845 in Bowden, South Australia and died in Taperoo, South Australia on 17 October 1927, he was 82.

They had the following children:

           33                i.              Henry Darling. (1875-1953)

           34               ii.              Ida Amelia Darling. (1876-1945)

           35              iii.              Charles Richard. (1878-1921)

                              iv.              Grace Darling. Born on 20 August 1879 in Medindie, South Australia. She died on 2 September 1940 aged 61.

Grace Darling married Unknown DAVISON.

                               v.              Leonard Claude Darling. Born on 24 June 1882 in Nailsworth, South Australia. He died aged 25 in 1908 and was buried in North Road Cemetery, South Australia.

                              vi.              Rosina Darling. Born on 27 August 1884 in Nailsworth, South Australia. She died in 1970 aged 85.

22. George Walden Smith DARLING. Born on 4 January 1849 in Gouger Adelaide, South Australia. George died in Unley, South Australia on 18 June 1926 aged 77. He was buried in North Road Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia. His occupation was a Limeburner.

On 9 March 1875 when George was 26, he married Caroline ROBINS, daughter of William ROBINS & Caroline REAVES, in St Peters, Glenelg, South Australia. Caroline was born on 5 April 1851 in Norwood, Adelaide, South Australia and she died in Adelaide Hospital North Terrace on 3 April 1893, she was 41.

They had the following children:

                                i.              George Walden. Born on 20 November 1875 in Medindie, South Australia. George Walden died in Adelaide, South Australia on 25 August 1946, he was 70. His occupation was a Carter.

           36               ii.              Caroline Elizabeth. (Known as, Carrie) (1877-1965)

           37              iii.              Emily Eva. (1879-1967)

                             vii.              Ida Amelia. Born on 22 February 1888 in Medindie, South Australia. She died in Nailsworth, Australia on 3 April 1905 aged 17. She was buried on 5 April 1905 in North Road Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia.

           41            viii.              Rose Orsmond. (Known As, Sysker Turner) (Twin) (1890-1964)

23. Benjamin Charles DARLING. Born on 30 November 1850 in Medindie South Australia. He died on 18 May 1921 aged 70. He was buried in Maitland Cemetery, South Australia. He was a Farmer and Carter.

On 21 December 1876 when he was 26, he married Fanny Jane JENKINS, daughter of William JENKINS & Ann FRY, in Nailsworth, Australia. Fanny was born on 18 June 1858 and died age 62 on 12 May 1921.

They had the following children:

                                i.              Fanny Evelyn. Born on 15 July 1877 in Medindie, South Australia. Fanny Evelyn died in Maitland, South Australia on 13 January 1943, she was 65.

           43               ii.              Ida Amelia. (1879-1943)

                              iii.              Benjamin Charles. Born on 4 May 1881 in Athelstone, South Australia. Benjamin died on 11 January 1957, he was 75 and is buried in Centennial Park.

                              iv.              Leonard Charles. Born on 19 December 1882 in Athelstone, South Australia. Leonard Charles died on 25 May 1969, he was 86 and is buried in Murray Bridge.

Leonard Charles married his cousin Hilda Ruby Darling TURNER, daughter of Henry James TURNER & Rosalie Charlotte DARLING (24). Born on 31 October 1882 in Grace Plains, South Australia. Hilda Ruby Darling died in Murray Bridge, South Australia in 1962, she was 79.

                               v.              Lillian Maud. Born on 20 September 1884 in Prospect Village, South Australia. She died on 10 May 1910 aged 25 and was buried in Maitland, South Australia.

                              vi.              Alfred Edwin. Born on 24 May 1886 in Maitland, South Australia. Alfred Edwin died on 16 January 1961, he was 74 and was buried in Centennial Park. Alfred Edwin married Fanny OAKLEY.

           44             vii.              Henry William Leonard. (1889-1953)

           45            viii.              Harold Roy. (1891-1972)

                              ix.              Ella Florence. Born on 30 July 1894 in Nr Maitland, South Australia. Ella Florence died on 1 October 1951, she was 57. She is buried in Western Australia. Ella Florence married Harry GREEN.

                               x.              Ruby Rosina May. Born on 31 July 1896 in Maitland, South Australia. She died age 58 on 7 August 1954 and was buried in Mildura, Victoria, Australia. Ruby Rosina May married Wilf PERRY.

                              xi.              Clarence Leslie. Born on 1 April 1899 in Maitland, South Australia. He died on 26 December 1986 aged 87. He was buried in North Brighton, Australia. Clarence Leslie married Ivy Florence DANIEL.

           46             xii.              Elsie Grace. (1900-1954)

                            xiii.              Horace Clifton. Born on 29 April 1902 in Maitland, South Australia. Horace died on 3 December 1976 aged 74. He was buried in Enfield, Australia.

He married Pearl Adelaide PUDNEY.

24. Rosalie Charlotte DARLING. Born on 26 April 1853 in Prospect Village, South Australia. Rosalie died in Mallala, South Australia on 11 October 1921, aged 68. She was buried in Mallala Cemetery, South Australia.

On 14 November 1877 when she was 24, she married Henry James TURNER, son of Henry James Browning TURNER & Elizabeth Ann EDWARDS, in Medindie, South Australia. Henry was born in 1850 in Hindmarsh South Australia and died aged 68 in Mallala, South Australia on 20 November 1918.

They had the following children:

           47                i.              Ida Amelia Darling. (1878-1956)

                               ii.              Rosina Darling. Born on 23 November 1880 in Grace Plains, South Australia. She died at the age of 62 during 1943.

On 29 September 1909 when she was 28, she married Walter William Charles HAYDON, in Mallala, South Australia. He was born on 12 May 1883 in South Australia and he died in 1945, he was 61.

                              iii.              Hilda Ruby Darling. Born on 31 October 1882 in Grace Plains, South Australia. She died in Murray Bridge, South Australia in 1962, aged 79.
